Wild camping by the lake

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life then wild camping is a great option. Wild camping is considered by many to be too risky to undertake in many parts of England and Wales but is tolerated in Scotland where the laws are different. For many, wild camping is the original and best type of camping experience. Most wild camping spots are inaccessible by car so you may need to leave some luxuries behind. There is a wild camping code to follow which is mainly common sense; don’t forget people live off the land, remember your toilet etiquette, only light a campfire with permission and be polite and accepting if you’re asked to move on.

As a general rule if your camping group is small, you are quiet and polite and camp out of sight, arrive late and leave early you shouldn’t have too much of a problem.

A couple of wild camping tips for anyone who’s new to it, take enough drinking water with you or camp near a water source, take insect repellent, and be friendly and polite at all times. Enjoy the peace and quiet – happy wild camping!
