Giving the Gift of Comfort

As the holiday season approaches, we begin looking for gifts for our family and friends. We hope to find something that they will like, something, they will use, and, if possible, something unique. We scour the holiday catalogues from all the usual department stores usually finding the same old stuff that we saw there last year, and the year before. In order to find a truly unique and appreciated gift, we need to look elsewhere and really think about what will make a difference for the person for whom the gift is intended.

For example, one ordinarily wouldn’t think about buying someone a mattress for Christmas. Yet, a good memory foam mattress is going to actually be used every single day. It’s going to help the recipient sleep better, and every night when they lie down in comfort, they’ll think about the great gift they received.

A memory foam mattress is an especially good gift for elderly parents or grandparents. They may be beginning to feel the aches and pains of arthritis or other age-related conditions that can make it difficult to get comfortable at night. A memory foam mattress is uniquely suited to help these conditions. With a conventional mattress, the body’ weight is concentrated on just a few pressure points, namely the hips, knees, and especially the shoulders. If someone has an issue with joint pain, conventional mattresses can aggravate the condition by concentrating pressure in these joints. A memory foam mattress on the other hand works differently.

Memory foam is a scientifically engineered material that changes properties when heated by normal body heat. It becomes softer and more yielding, conforming to the curves of the body. This allows the weight of the body to be supported more evenly over its entire surface from head to toe instead of creating painful pressure points. Not only does memory foam increase comfort this way, but the underlying layers of foam provide firm support to help reduce issues with spinal alignment that are so important to preventing or reducing chronic back pain.

Without these daily discomforts and by getting good night’s sleep on a comfortable mattress, strong improvements can be made in the ability to focus and concentrate. Memory improves and mood swings are reduced when compared to people who do not get a full night’s sleep according to the most recent scientific studies.

Now that’s a gift worth giving to anyone, especially to our aging parents who went to such great lengths to care for and nurture us when we needed it as children. Isn’t it time to repay that gift with a gift of comfort, a memory foam mattress?
